‘SAFETY THROUGH KNOWLEDGE 2007' – Great Success!!!


The seminar aimed at foreign nationals on Road Safety held in Castlebar, Co. Mayo Friday 14th saw at least 160-170 participants of 5-6 nationalities from the county and beyond. Road Safety initiative by Chartered Translators Ireland proved to be in high demand and of great interest.

Garda members from local Castlebar Barracks, Noel Gibbons a roads safety officer from Mayo County Council, representative from Local Motor Tax Office, Casey's Autoworld and Hastings Insurances joined forces to inform and educate foreign participants on matters of road safety. Among many messages the key were – drink driving, speeding, dangerous driving, insurance issues, road tax, NCT, vehicle roadworthiness, etc.


Polish, Lithuanian and Russian interpreters from Chartered Translators Ireland were flat out for nearly three hours rendering a highly important message to the participants.

The seminar was highly informative, very relevant, well prepared, and organised. It received extremely positive interest and feedback from both the participants and the media. A Lithuanian couple, for instance, were very surprised when they found out on the night that their home insurance was valid only for a maximum 3 months in this country. Irish penalty system caused quite a reaction when the participants learned that they ‘could even go to court for certain road offences'. A Latvian lady was surprised to learn that she could easily transfer her Latvian driving licence to an Irish permanent one and avail of a cheaper insurance that way. The speakers were bombarded with hundreds of questions during the coffee break and right after the seminar.

Proprietor of Chartered Translators Ireland Mr. Gintarius Petkus added: 'Not only did we receive a lot of useful tips on safer driving but also got together in the town of Castlebar for the first time in the history of the county. This certainly speaks volumes of our unity and integrity as a nation and most importantly our willingness to accept laws of Ireland'
